(1.) Read-Letter No. 21 of the 26th April last, from the Registrar General, recommending Mr. EDGAR BRUCE SHEPHERD, a learner in his Department, for the usual allowance of $10 a month for a Chinese Teacher, with effect from the 1st May last.

(2.) Read:--Letters from the Captain Superintendent of Police dated respectively the 15th and 28th May and the 8th June, 1883, recommending rent allowances to certain Constables, as follows:---

Allowance to three Police Constables quartered at No. 4 Police Station, during the repairs of the premises, at $15 each (4 months).............$180.00

Allowance to two Police Constables now quartered at No. 8 Police Station, at $15 per month, from June to November, the Station having been declared by the Colonial Surgeon as unhealthy.....$180.00

Additional allowance of $3 each to Police Constables SIMMONS, GIDLEY, and JENKINS (in addition to the $12 to each, sanctioned by the Finance Committee on 24th April), $72.00

Total: $432.00

The Committee consider the amounts reasonable, and recommend that the same be voted.
